Dershowitz 2016 Dershowitz: Obama Will Go Down in History as One of Worst Foreign Policy Presidents Ever

Dershowitz 2012 When I decide who to vote for as President, I ask myself who will be best for America and for the world. An important component of my answer involves my assessment of the candidate’s willingness and ability to protect Israel’s security, since I strongly believe that a strong Israel serves the interests of the United States and of world peace. I am confident that President Obama will keep his promise “always [to] have Israel’s back” in the face of the continuing threats posed by Israel’s enemies.

After getting a very unfriendly welcome from Yosef, the pasuk says (Mikeitz 42:21), "Vayomru Ish El Achiv Aval Asheimim Anachnu; The brothers said indeed we are guilty as we saw the pain of our brother Yosef, and ignored his pleas."

The Shnayim Mikra brings from the Megaleh Amukos that six consecutive words starting with Ish, begin with the letter Aleph. These six Alephs each represent one millennium of the world's six thousand years of existence. The Torah is telling us that the mistake of selling Yosef will haunt us throughout the entire history.

Parshat Mikeitz and Chanukah

The Gaon indicates that there is a relation, a Remez, between Chanuka and the fact that we always read Parshas Mikeitz during Chanuka. At the end of each parsha, the Masora gives the number of Pasukim, but for strangely enough for Mikeitz it also gives the number of words - 2025.

The Vilna Gaon says that it is to teach us if Poti Phera is one word or two. Secondly, 2025 is a Remez to Ner Chanukah. The gemara in Shabbos (21b) say we should light Ner Ish U'Baiso for 8 day. The Gematria of the word Ner is 250 If you multiply that by 8 days, 8 x 250 = 2000. The remaining 25 id for the 25th of Kislev.

Eight possible Trump responses to the UN Israel vote

AIPAC is deeply disturbed by the failure of the Obama Administration to exercise its veto to prevent a destructive, one-sided, anti-Israel resolution from being enacted by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). In the past, this administration and past administrations have rejected this type of biased resolution since it undermines prospects for peace.

Journalist Said is concerned about one thing at yesterday's State Department Briefing.

So a young Palestinian girl – 15-year-old Ahed Tamimi – was slated to be part of the No Child Behind Bars Living Resistance speaking tour that begins on the 15th and she was denied a visa. Is that –because the Israelis have expressed, like, displeasure with someone like her touring the United States and speaking about the occupation – she’s from Hebron. Could that be the reason? Could it be that Israel has requested that such a person should not be issued a visa? (Laughter.)

UK Media Watch writes about the young Palestinian girl over here.

Ambassador Danon tweets, "The proposed resolution at the @UN Security Council is the peak of hypocrisy. It will do nothing to promote a diplomatic process and will only reward the Palestinian policy of incitement and terror. It is absurd that at a time when thousands are being massacred in Syria, the Security Council is devoting time and energy to convene and discuss condemning the only true democracy in the Middle East. We expect our greatest ally not to allow this one-sided and anti-Israel resolution to be adopted by the Council."

Unflinching impartiality

A letter published by the New York Times after the 2016 election included the following words.

As we reflect on the momentous result, and the months of reporting and polling that preceded it, we aim to rededicate ourselves to the fundamental mission of Times journalism. That is to report America and the world honestly, without fear or favor, striving always to understand and reflect all political perspectives and life experiences in the stories that we bring to you. It is also to hold power to account, impartially and unflinchingly.

The four sides of the dreidel have the letters, Nun, Gimel, Shin, Hey. These stand for the four forces in a person. Nefesh or spirit-Nun, Guf or physicality-Gimel, Sechel or intellect-Shin, and a higher spirit combining the other three, HaKol-Hey. The four nations of Bavel, Yavan, Rome, and Madai each opposed a specific one of these forces. Moshiach, whose gematria is 358 the same as Nun, Gimel, Shin, Hey, will annul these forces forever. Then Hashem's reign will be accepted by all. Hashem Melech, Hashem Malach, Hashem Yimloch L'Olam Va'ed also equals 358 like our dreidel and Moshiach.

The dreidel spins on its point. All these nations on each side of the dreidel all focus on Bnei Yisroel. The four side gradually decrease and disappear into this point, as the four nations will disappear and become batel to Am Yisroel.

Growing in the Chanukah Season

Forgive and forget

This morning I received an email with a number of interesting thoughts. Below is one I would like to share with you.

Have faith and have a successful life. One of the basic differences between G-d and humans is, G-d gives, gives and forgives. But the human gets, gets, gets and forgets. Be thankful in life...

92-Year-Old Nazi Fighter and Her Newfound Jewish Identity

Booth and Eglash: A Pathological Hatred of Israel

"I have lived with Lavan (Im Lavan Garti), and tarried until now" [Bereshis 32:5]. Rashi cites the famous Chazal that the word "Garti" (I lived) has the numerical value of 613 (Taryag), indicating "I lived with the wicked Lavan, but I observed the 613 Commandments - without learning from his evil ways."

Rav Ruderman noted the apparent redundancy in Yaakov's message to his brother, Eisav. If Yaakov had already sent the message "I observed the 613 Commandments," what is added by further stating "and I have not learned from the evil ways of Lavan?" Rav Ruderman Zt"l, taught that the inference to be drawn is that one can observe the 613 commandments and, nevertheless, learn from the ways of a Lavan. Even within the context of a fully observant life-style, a person can wind up looking like a Lavan. Even when an individual's actions are technically permissible, the person may still be acting like a Lavan. A person can live an indulgent life-style -- one that may not technically deviate from the letter of the Law, but one, which is totally foreign from the spirit of the Law.

Therefore, Yaakov clarified: "Not only have I observed the letter of the 613 commandments, I have also not learned from Lavan and have even continued to observe the spirit of those laws."

My cup runs over

A relative recently purchased the book titled Emunah With Love and Chicken Soup and recommended it to me. In fact, she told me that she bought a few copies to give as a Chanukah present to some members of her family. Click here to read an excerpt from the book.

Yaakov davened to Hashem ‘Hatzileini Na MiYad Achi MiYad Eisav"; Save me from my brother from Eisav. The Bais HaLevi asks why does it need to say Achi and Eisav? He answers that the Zohar says when you daven for something you should be as clear as possible in your descriptions. He then asks why does it need to say "MiYad"; from the hands of, twice? Let it just say MiYad Achi Eisav.

He answers that Yaakov felt trapped. The two logical outcomes of meeting Eisav were that Eisav would kill him or the other outcome which was no less frightful for Yaakov was that Eisav would forgive him and they would live together like brothers. As far as Yaakov was concerned Eisav's closeness would cause religious erosion that was as dangerous for Klal Yisroel as physical destruction. He wanted to keep his children as far away from Eisav and his lifestyle as possible. That is why he davened that he should be saved from both being murdered at the hands of "Eisav" as well as "Achi" the brotherly hand that Eisav may want to extend to him.

This says the Bais HaLevi was indicative of the future Galus Edom. During some periods we face destruction from cruel and murderous enemies. At other times we self destruct from the brotherly closeness of our host nations. This freedom ends with assimilation of ideals and lowering our level of Avodas Hashem as well as unfortunately assimilation itself.

HOW A CUP RUNS OVER: On the words of Dovid Hamelech in Tehillim “Kosi Revaya--my cup runs over”--HaRav Avigdor Miler, Z’tl provides the following great insight (in his Sefer Shaarei Orah I, p.96, as brought in Growth Through Tehillim, by Rabbi Zelig Pliskin, Shlita): “A cup can only run over if it becomes full first. If there is a hole in the cup, it will never become full and will never run over. This is a lesson for us to constantly remember the good things that Hashem does for us. Don’t forget them. Then the good things will add up--and the happiness will flow!

More than I deserve

When Leah had her fourth child she named him Yehudah, saying, "HaPaam Odeh Es Hashem" - "This time I must thank Hashem". Rashi is bothered, why is it specifically by this child that she had to thank Hashem? He explains, Leah knew that Yaakov would have 4 wives and 12 children. According to the calculation, it comes out to 3 children per wife. Therefore, when Leah had her forth child she said, "HaPaam Odeh Es Hashem" - "This time I must thank Hashem" - As Rashi explains, "ShNatalti Yoser MiChelki" - "For I have received more than my portion."

I once heard a pshat, it is for this reason, the Jewish Nation is known by the name "Yehudi". Since every Jew must look at what his lot is in this world and say, "Natalti Yoser MiChelki" - I have received more than my share.... More than I deserve!!

Luz

When Yaakov woke from his dream, he realized he was in a Makom Kadosh, Yerushalayim. He appropriately named the place Bais Kel, the house of Hashem. The pasuk (Vayeitzei 28:19) tells us that the original name was Luz. Rabbeinu Bachaye asks why is this relevant to us?

He answers that the pasuk is hinting to the fact that Yerushalayim was the beginning of creation, and the rest of the world continued from there. Luz, he explains based on the Medrash (Vayikra Rabba 18:1), is the bone in our spine that we will be recreated from during Techiyas HaMeisim. Just like the original wondrous creation started from Luz, so too will the miracle of Techiyas HaMeisim will start from Yerushalayim, for Yerushalayim is the center on Hashem's universe, and the closest connection to Heaven.
